Chevrolet Silverado 3500HD
Whether you're building roads or subdivisions, you're also building a reputation for getting the job done. And capability is where it's at in the heavy-duty full-size pickup truck world. It will come as no surprise the 2012 Silverado 3500HD is very qualified when it comes to torque, payload, horsepower, towing capacity, handling, and performance.
It's the pickup truck that backs you up with an available Duramax® Diesel generating more torque than any other Chevrolet full-size pickup. It's the one with bigger towing numbers. It's the full-size pickup truck with a sturdy frame to handle payload and deliver an excellent ride. In fact, Silverado offers the best-in-class maximum towing capacity and the best-in-class maximum payload capacity. From job site to off site, Chevy Runs Deep.
Even trucks that work for a living should look good while doing it, so now there is an HD Z71 appearance package for LT and LTZ models that includes a body-colored bumper, grille with chrome mesh, door handles and mirrors, unique Z71 decals, foglamps, bright doorsill plates and 18" polished forged-aluminum wheels with all-terrain tires.
For 2012 Chevy added new color choices, bringing Silver Ice Metallic, Mocha Steel Metallic, Black Granite Metallic and Graystone Metallic to the lineup.
New rugged 17" forged polished aluminum wheels are standard on 2012 Silverado 3500HD Crew Cab LTZ and available on Crew Cab LT with dual rear wheels.
If your pickup truck doubles as your office, you'll appreciate Silverado's creature comforts, including dual glove boxes, cavernous storage areas, and a Driver Information Center displaying engine hours, fuel range, fuel use and more. Silverado also offers:
Color choices on LT models now include Light Cashmere color with Dark Cashmere color and Dark Titanium color with Light Titanium color. Silverado LTZ with Ebony interior now features dramatic metal brush appearance.
A new option for the 2012 Silverado 3500HD LTZ is the available heated—and cooled—front perforated leather appointed seats for year long comfort.
The available heated, leather-appointed front bucket seats and a leather-wrapped steering wheel take your Silverado to a new level of comfort.
Together, the reliable available Duramax® Diesel and the available, legendary Allison® transmission have been proving themselves in the field and on the job for over a decade.
- With a 36-gallon tank (approx.) the Duramax offers up to 680 highway miles on a single tank.
- It's B20 biodiesel compatible and runs cleaner by using diesel exhaust fluid.
Heavy–duty Allison® six–speed transmission harnesses the power of the available Duramax. To make sure it can handle that amount of torque, we beef Silverado up with:
- Strong torque converter
- Large diameter output shaft
- Robust clutches
The Regular Cab Silverado 3500HD with a diesel engine can tow up to 23,000 lbs. with a fifth wheel trailer, while the Extended and Crew Cabs with diesel engines can tow up to 18,000 lbs. with a conventional hitch. Our Regular Cab equipped with a gas engine has a maximum payload capacity of 7,215 lbs.
Our chassis features a high-strength, fully-boxed steel frame that lets Silverado 3500HD shoulder up to 7,215 lbs. of payload. The suspension has big, strong components to handle large loads and provide the ride quality the driver deserves.
- Massive components include three-inch wide rear leaf springs and precision-forged upper control arms.
- The independent front suspension allows each front wheel to react independently to rout terrain, helping keep each wheel in a vertical position and more firmly planted on the road.
- The steering knuckle is taller and 66% heavier than the previous generation to better manage larger capacities.
- The rear suspension includes three-inch leaf springs with an asymmetric design that reduces wheel hop on acceleration and better handles increased payloads.
The front suspension offers huge precision-forged upper control arms and torsion bars along with the largest steering gear we've ever used on a heavy-duty truck, which supports up to a 6,000-lb. FGAWR. So every HD 4x4 model can easily accommodate a snow plow with the available Snow Plow Prep Package. And unlike Ford or Ram, Silverado HD incorporates torsion bars that allow an owner to easily adjust the front of the vehicle back to its normal ride height, even with the weight of a plow attached.
Silverado offers Tow/Haul Mode that enhances performance while pulling a trailer or hauling heavy loads. When activated, this feature modifies the automatic transmission shift schedule and helps reduce throttle pedal activity by the driver while traveling over rolling terrain. New for 2012, is Cruise Grade Braking, which uses transmission downshifts to allow engine compression braking to slow the vehicle and its load. It works in and out of Tow/Haul mode on the Vortec® 6.0L engine.
Off-site doesn't mean out of the loop. With internet access, a number of ways to listen to traffic updates, music, news and sports, plus the assistance and security of OnStar car technology, standard for 6 months on most models, you're covered from bumper to trailer hitch with the latest in mobile and safety technology.
New for 2012, Silverado offers a new Touch-Screen Navigation and Entertainment system. Up to 30GB hard drive lets you store your favorite music. Features include DVD-playback, voice recognition, and, when equipped, integration with NavWeather, NavTraffic, a choice of 2D or 3D full-color map displays, rear view camera, plus a pause-and-play feature that gives you the ability to pause a live radio broadcast. Available on LTZ.
NavWeather brings the local forecast and current condition information right to the vehicle's navigation screen. It broadcasts both local weather conditions and 5 day forecast along your route. In the case of threatening weather, you will see National Weather Service warnings in your area. Local Forecast is included with NavTraffic as part of the 3 month trial.
Chevrolet Wi–Fi by Autonet Mobile turns your Silverado into a mobile hotspot: Available dealer-installed GM-licensed accessory provides multiple users with full Internet access inside the vehicle and up to a 150-foot radius around the vehicle.
Silverado 3500HD offers the available, durable heavy-duty Allison® transmission, plus a number of other components that give you confidence when you're towing or hauling a heavy load.
StabiliTrak® Electronic Stability Control System helps you keep on the road and in control. The control module compares your steering input with the vehicle's actual response and then, if necessary, makes small, individual applications to help keep you on track. StabiliTrak® includes Hill Start Assist (SRW models only) which, on uphill inclines greater than 5%, automatically engages to hold the truck stationary for about a second after the brake is released. This gives you time to accelerate before the truck can roll backward. Also included is Trailer Sway Control (SRW models only)—even more assurance—and something Ram doesn't offer. Working in conjunction with StabiliTrak, the Trailer Sway Control feature senses trailer way and automatically applies the truck's brakes to help reduce sway and help maintain control.
Diesel Exhaust Brake System on the available Duramax® Diesel, it uses the technology of a variable vane geometry turbo to create back pressure to slow the vehicle down. That means reduced brake fade, prolonged brake life, and more confidence on steep grades. Auto Grade Braking automatically downshifts the transmission to help show the truck-and give you more control-when you apply the brakes while descending long, steep grades. Big, Strong Brakes: Large rotors and calipers improve brake pedal feel and result in shorter pedal travel. With Intelligent Brake Assist, the calipers are preloaded, so when the system senses a panic-braking situation, the brakes can be fully applied more quickly. Silverado also offers an available integrated trailer brake controller-an extra measure of security when you need it. Click here to read more about vehicle safety.
